Jules Petru Fricker (LEGZ) is an interdisciplinary Zurich-based artist with an interest in choreography and moving image. Deeply rooted in the practices of dance rituals, Fricker finds ways to evoke otherworldly, dreamlike islands of longing. Jules' works use utopian imagination and magical fabulations as a form of political resistance to criticise normative notions of desire, objectification and identification. Their solo debut (‘Between-a queer Science-Fiction Rite’, 2022, 60 min) premiered at Zentralwäscherei Zürich (ZW) and was performed to thrilled reviews at the Performing Arts Festival and Dock 11 Berlin, among others.

Trancestors
During their residency at Tanzhaus Zürich, Jules Fricker is working with Aaa Biczysko and Lou Drago on the Dionysian ritual of the piece Trancestors - a performance ritual on the paths of our trailblazers and with a live recording of the musician Bendik Giske from Sydney. The team will present a work-in-progress for the second time this year (last time at Roxy Birsfelden) and will celebrate its premiere at Zentralwäscherei Zurich from 13-15 December (funded by the City of Zurich and the Aargauer Kuratorium).
Trancestors conjures up our queer trailblazers in a performance ritual. The dance piece, which marks the 50th anniversary of trans activist Sylvia Rivera's groundbreaking ‘Gay Power’ speech in New York, not only honours the activist movements surrounding the Stonewall riots, but also the Swiss LGBTIQ* history of trans icon Coco in particular.
