Every two years, Tanzhaus Zürich welcomes the touring festival TanzPlan Ost, which links current affairs with cultural policy. This year’s edition deals with the theme of the periphery and places society’s edges at centre stage for once.

Twin Thing

Dancer Juliette Uzor and puppeteer Sebastian Ryser, both from St. Gall, have been friends for many years. Together with the collective E0B0FF, they have carried out various theater and dance productions.

Twin Thing shows two hallways, running parallel towards the audience, two separate rooms, one body in each. The duo Juliette Uzor / Sebastian Ryser uses this starting scene to address similarities, differences, and parallels between individuals. Having both grown up as a twin, this topic has accompanied them their entire life, and they link this experience with sociopolitical issues. While doing so, they make use of the rhythm that the appearing and disappearing bodies produce (in)dependently of each other. In their piece, they merge dance with object theater and work with personal body language that keeps them connected despite the physical barrier.

Choreographer and dancer Micha Stuhlmann is an established persona in the art scene of Thurgau. She shows courage by moving the focus of her audience to issues viewed as less critical by society, such as aging, impairments of any kind, or species extinction.

In Ich esse deinen Schatten (I eat your shadow), Micha Stuhlmann and the Thurgau musician Beat Keller shine a light on old fundamentals of humanity, a creature so driven by emotions, longing, and greed. It is a sort of genesis, expressive through its ambiguous dance language, walking the fine line between persuasive sensuality, reality, and insanity.
