Sharing: Naslah – Behind Bars

During his residency at Tanzhaus Zürich, Aly Khamees is working on a poetically staged dance theatre piece. It tells the story of the people called "Mosagaleen Khatar", which translates to "registered as dangerous". They are ex-convicts and come from economically poor and marginalised social classes. Naslah invites us to look behind the bars to reveal their faces, their stories, values and dreams of freedom hidden behind stereotypes. The protagonist takes the audience on an imaginary journey through a world of memories. Just as our memories often only reflect fragments of what we have experienced, his story is composed of the various fates of the Mosagaleen Khatar. Their common strength lies in their belief in a self-determined future, despite all the obstacles. Freed from memories and imposed identities, the journey ends after a cathartic dance of death.

The work-in-progress Sharing will be followed by a short audience discussion.

Below the Skin / Aly Khamees

Below the Skin, founded in 2019 by Aly Khamees and Jelena Mair, is a dance company dedicated to transcultural exploration. Their productions shed light on the challenges of our time and celebrate the commonalities of humanity. Beyond entertainment, they aim to inspire dialogue, reflect on social issues and promote a deeper understanding of the environment. They transcend cultural and artistic boundaries, encourage co-creation and create performances that connect art and society. As accomplices of Tanzhaus Zürich, the company refines their techniques in open workshops and makes them accessible to a wide audience.
