How does war contribute to the weakening and marginalization of the identities and cultures of the people affected by it? What mechanisms allow for escaping the ideologies and prejudices that perpetuate violence? Peacefully is a performance for four dancers and a live musician, articulating dances between popular traditions and post-colonialism – like a transformable and reconfigurable terrain. Drawing on the popular dances of communities impacted by conflict, it creates a form of peaceful uprising. Situated somewhere between contemporary expression and cultural heritage, this project questions the role of culture and heritage threatened by the politics of war.

Mithkal Alzghair

Mithkal Alzghair is a performing artist who explores the body as a concept of humanity, a space for memory, poetry and imagination. After studying at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Damascus, he did the “ex.er.ce” master’s program in Montpellier. In 2016 he created Displacement ; in 2017 he created Transaction; in 2019 the show We are not going back; and in 2022 his solo Clamors. For him creation is a space where the body becomes a terrain for experimentation, a place where meaning, contradictions and infinity intersect. For him dance is not just a physical act, but a constant quest, a space for questioning. He sees his art as an instrument of transformation, a silent revolution for peace.
