Tanzhaus Zürich was founded in 1996. As a hospitable institution for contemporary choreographic creation, we support artists working in Zurich in all areas of the creation and production process. Apart from supporting newcomers, we establish long-term, reciprocal relationships and cultivate existing partnerships.
Beyond this we investigate how dance practice, choreographic knowledge and the skills developed through community engaged practices can actively embed inside dance organizations themselves, especially those striving for more inclusion and systemic change. There is a long history of dance as a medium for connection, creativity and cultural identity. Within current contemporary dance practices it is also a resource for critical thinking, knowledge creation and a motor for innovative processes. Tanzhaus Zürich has developed a new role with dramaturg, facilitator and former professional dancer Monica Gillette to cultivate a fresh approach for institutional transformation that aims to generate innovative and mindful practices of inclusion, diversity and sustainability.
Accomplices Model
The stage productions created here are co-produced with selected local artists who also actively contribute to the rest of Tanzhaus’ program – such as residencies, workshops and discursive formats. We call this model of collaboration the accomplices model.
Residencies
Through our residency programme, we offer the Tanzhaus accomplices as well as other local, national and international artists time for research and development in an inspiring environment along with the opportunity for encounters with the Tanzhaus team and the local community. Our residency guests’ work-in-progress Sharings allow the audience insight into different stages of artistic processes.
Studiozeit
The Tanzhaus Zürich has three studios at Wasserwerkstrasse 127a.
